I’m Matthew Bell, Middle East correspondent for PRI’s The World, a one-hour weekday international news program. The World is a co-production of the BBC World Service, Public Radio International and WGBH Boston. The program is headquartered in Boston and it airs on nearly 300 public radio stations across the US. The blog is an extension of life and work here. I shall make a vigorous effort to keep my own views in check here, but please note that any opinions that might be reflected on the blog do not represent the views of The World or its partners.
By way of background, from 2001 to 2010, I covered breaking international news stories, mostly from the WGBH newsroom in Boston. I have reported from London, Brussels, Belfast, Seoul, Shanghai, Jerusalem, Cincinnati and Cairo among other places. I grew up in New Hampshire and Vermont. I have a radical passion for food, jazz, blues and funk.

Matt,
This is wonderful that you’ll be posting links to your news stories on your own site. It will certainly make it easier to find your work. I’m hoping that we’ll also see some content and opinions that are not appropriate for a news format like The World.
Great picture! I’ll be tuning in for more insights and news from Matthew Bell.
Should I be looking here for the Cairo links from now on? Is it ok to link my Facebook to this blog? Or, is that a “no, no.” Or, should I go to Posterous?
Stay safe.
Love from Vermont!
